We don’t know about you but when we get a hankering for real Mexican food we head over to the Mission District. It’s not just that the Mission has some serious choices when it comes to burritos, tortas, quesadillas and tacos (Pastor, Suadero, Longaniza, Cabeza, Asada, you know what we are talking about) – it just feels like you are eating in the right place.

The show marks our first foray into the Mission. Don’t worry, it is just the start with many more video and audio shows to come. We have a few hot spots on our list like Theater Rhinoceros, Tartine Bakery, Star Wash and a little partying at Esta Noche.

By the way, this show is all Laura all the time.

Laura’s first stop is a visit with the crew at Station 11 of the San Francisco Fire Department (Church and 26th street) where she does a burrito tasting with some real-men-burrito-tasting-experts. You know, the guys that are here to save us.

The taqueria contenders are some of the Mission’s favorite restaurants and taco stands: La Taqueria (25th & Mission), Taqueria Cancun (Valencia & Mission), Poncho Villa (16th & Valencia).

Of course since we are in a real live fire house the alarm goes off just as we are getting underway. You’ll just have to listen to hear about the fire and the award winning burrito (a unanimous decision!)

Next stop is a tour of a couple of the Mission’s favorite murals with expert Patricia Rose, artist and guide at Precita Eyes Tours. Rather than muck it all up, here is how Precita Eye describes themselves: Precita Eyes Mural Arts & Visitors Center, established in 1977 is a non-profit multipurpose community arts organization that has played an integral role in the city’s cultural heritage and arts education. One of only three community mural centers in the United States, the organization sponsors and implements ongoing mural projects throughout the Bay Area and internationally.

The two murals we visit are “Leyenda Azteca” and “Indigenous Eyes: War or Peace”.
