Orlando Cepeda, known to Giants fans as the Baby Bull, recently invited us to his Bay area home to give MosaicSF Interviewer Mike Mehan an exclusive Interview.

Some people thought that Orlando, who played for the Giants from 1958 to 1966, was more popular than his teammate Willie Mays. Why? Well just swing through these accomplishments:

Orlando won Rookie of the Year honors in 1958 when he belted 25 homers, led the NL with 38 doubles, knocked in 96 runs, and batted .312. As a sophomore, he upped his figures to 27 home runs, 105 RBI’s, and a .317 average. His career included seven All-Star games, nine .300 seasons and eight seasons with 25 or more homers. Orlando was elected to the Hall of Fame In 1999.

Our wide-ranging interview covers Orlando’s thoughts on his MVP year, his return from a major knee injury, San Francisco as a baseball town, today’s kids and baseball, how hard baseball players work, Buddhism and his views on steroids and the drugs that players took in his time.

This is the first of our Giants Podcasts. Stay tuned as we offer up our take on opening day and an inside the park perspective (care of the Giants organization) in future shows.
